One Morning We’ll All Awaken without a Theory

at wooden desks,
our blank composition books
exuding their distinctive freshness.

Not translation
nor transliteration—

On the blackboard, swathes of erasure,
backwash of the cloud
that must have passed through
while we were dreaming.
